Happy Mother's Day!

My first "real" Mother's Day turned out really well. Something my family has always done for birthdays and Mother's/Father's Day is insist the girl/guy of the day does NO work what so ever. So we prepped the night before by cleaning and getting everything ready.

The food was great (and let's be honest, not cooking or cleaning is what it's all about)! For breakfast Dave made me some Orange Cinnamon Rolls and an omelet. For dinner he made Steak Gorgonzola, a salad and garlic bread. In the evening we needed a snack, so I introduced Dave to Muddy Buddies. It was a tasty day!

Dave also was so kind to teach my lesson as well. It was great to just have a break! We relaxed, ate, went on a walk to the park, and just spent time together. So nice!

We decided for gifts this year to combine Mother's and Father's day and get ourselves a bike trailer! We used all of our REI Dividend to buy it, so it didn't cost us anything! Dave also bought me the Hunger Games trilogy. I wasn't expecting anything on top of the bike trailer, so it was a pleasant surprise. Over all it was a fabulous day!

Ladies Lunch: Salmon Chowder

We had a great ladies lunch today! We chatted, got to see Alison's newly decorated baby room and we ate. We always eat good food at ladies lunch. My mom made some fabulous peanut butter oatmeal cookies and I brought a Salmon Chowder recipe I found a few weeks ago.

We've been trying to eat salmon at least twice a month because it's healthy, so I've been experimenting a lot lately with new recipes. This one is super easy and delicious!

Salmon Chowder

2 T butter
1/4 c onion (chopped)
1/2 c celery (chopped)
1/2 t garlic powder
1 1/2 c potatoes (dices into 1 inch cubes)
1 c carrot (thinly sliced)
2 c chicken broth
1/2 t salt
1/4 t pepper
1 t dill
10 oz canned salmon
12 oz can evaporated milk
can of creamed corn
1 c cheddar cheese (shredded)

Melt butter in a large pot over medium heat. Saute onion, celery and garlic powder until onions are tender. Stir in potatoes, carrots, corn, broth, salt, pepper, and dill. Bring to a boil and reduce heat. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes.

Stir in salmon, evaporated milk, and cheese. Cook until heated through.

Graduation, More Teeth & Life

Dave is officially a graduated man! He finished all his classes about a week ago, and last Friday it became official. It's been a lot of work, but I'm so glad it's over. One of us has been in school since we were married, so it's so nice to have nights to focus on our little family!

Dave did take a few days off work to relax, unwind, and finish up his portfolio. We did some heavy yard work as well as got in a few bike rides and a hike to Doughnut Falls. It was nice to have a break, but it's time to start the job hunt.

It's been also been a rough week in the Plastow home! Logan's been teething again, and He is one ornery boy. After babysitting him last Saturday my Mom decided he's getting 3 teeth at once, and that's what's causing the hubbub. He's gnawing on everything! I can't even get a picture of him without at least one finger in his mouth.

He's also getting so big; these jammies are 12 months old! I got him a pair of these and a Spiderman pair from Walmart for the summer. Dave now loves putting Logan to bed at night.

I should be getting a new calling in a few weeks, and I've started trying to prepare for it. It's totally different than teaching Gospel Doctrine. It's been a good calling for the past 3 years, and I'm trying to get excited for the next one. As soon as I'm called, I'll start some new projects.

Teeth & Unfinished Projects

On Tuesday we discovered Logan's first tooth! It's the bottom left front one. He had spent all weekend being super cranky and ornery. Now I understand why. We're so glad it finally came in, and hope the next one follows soon.

I've been trying to finish up projects that have been hanging around the house lately. Some of them have been hanging around since well before Logan was born. Like this bunting/sleeper that I made thinking it would be good for a boy or a girl, only to have Dave tell me it was too girly for a boy. So it's sat unfinished until now.

Or this afghan I started before I knew Logan was a boy, and didn't get around to finishing (don't worry I was working on boy and girl blankets, just in case). Doesn't Logan make a great baby blanket model?

These pictures we finally got around to hanging in the bathroom are from October a year and a half ago. The pictures we took on our North Carolina trip, and the shells we bought on Ocracoke Island (also in NC).  The frames I collected at DI for a buck a piece, and I matted and put everything together, finishing only last week! There are 4 pictures of lighthouses and 4 shell pictures.

Finally, I finished two blankets for my sister-in-law April who is pregnant with twin girls. They're both bigger flannel receiving blankets, with a little image appliqued in the corner. She's not due until August, but I figured I'd get a head start. My sister-in-law Alison is also due to have a girl in July, so I have a few baby gifts to whip out soon.

My sister Heather gave me some material she found at her husband's grandma's house to  make a purse. It was all cut out, I just had to put it together and add some ribbon on the front to make it more me. It was super easy, and I like the results:

Also, I was given an Old Navy fleece jacket, and the arms were sadly way too small! This happens a lot; I have super long arms. So I cut it down, and re-sewed it to fit Logan. I can't say he loves it (taking pictures of him in it caused major tears), but he looks super cute. And it only took me an hour to downsize.

I made it 18 months size (even though he's 9 - 12 month size), because it's almost summer. I want him to get some use out of this. It fits him pretty good now, just a little baggy and the arms are long. So you won't be distracted by the crying baby, here's another shot:

Happy Easter!

We didn't expect Logan to understand Easter this year, and we were not disappointed in that aspect. Most of the week prior wasn't spent seriously pondering holy week. It was more spent like this:

I had some eggs around the house decorating a variety of baskets, vases, ect. And Logan tended to get his mouth on them. With all the things he's been gnawing on lately I think teething is back! But we still have no teeth to show for it...

Easter was very relaxing and just what we needed. We tried to sleep in, but Logan ended up joining us in bed around 7. We pretended to sleep for another hour while he chewed on our blanket, pillows, fingers, and chins. Finally we got up and went to church, which was great.

I ended up inviting a single sister from the ward over for lunch, because she had moved in 2 weeks prior and her Easter plans consisted of "well, I got some egg dye from the store, so I'll probably dye something. So we got to know her a little better.

That was followed by the famous Sunday nap, a walk to the park, and some relaxing on a blanket time in the yard until the sun went down. We watched the third Harry Potter that night, read scriptures and called it good.

Somewhere in there candy was consumed and I don't know how but 5 peeps disappeared! Hum, I can't help but love them for some odd reason.

Nothing super exciting, but we had a good time. But how could you not when you have this little guy around?
